Itinerary

"Murakaza neza" - Welcome to Rwanda! We will be waiting for you at the airport and drive you to your accommodation. Depending on the time of arrival, you can optionally make a detour to Kigali's arts and crafts markets or you can relax at the hotel pool after the long journey. Today we depart for Akagera National Park, which we explore over the following days. We are at altitudes between 1,200 and 1,800 meters, with a fascinating view of green hills and fertile valleys opening up at almost every bend. Once in the park, near the papyrus thicket irrigated by the river, we meet buffalo, zebra, elephant, various species of antelope, warthog and numerous bird species. In the afternoon we have the opportunity to take a boat tour on Lake Ihema. We can observe crocodiles, hippos and other aquatic birds. Today will do an early game drive then later drive back to Kigali – please note that today the game drive will take a whole day in search of game like elephants, lions, rhinos, antelopes, and other bird species. Later you will transfer to Kigali for dinner & overnight at Onomo Hotel Kigali – Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

After an early breakfast, we follow the road as it climbs and descends some of the thousand Hills, with spectacular views all along the way. Arrive at Huye. Visit the National Museum. It is a must for anybody who is interested in African history. Time permitting, tour the remarkable arboretum and continue toward the Nyungwe forest. Covering 970 km2, the Highlands provide unique habitat for thirteen species of primate, including chimpanzees, l’Hoest and owl-faced monkeys. As you walk under the canopy of majestic trees, a large group of semi wild colobus monkeys can be seen feeding on wild figs and jumping from branch to branch. This high-altitude jungle floor boasts some of the most beautiful orchids in the world. Later after trekking the chimpanzees, you will transfer Gisenyi for an overnight as you prepare for the Congo Nile trail. The next two days we hike along the Congo-Nile Trail along Lake Kivu. A well-developed path leads us through the hills and valleys at altitudes of up to 2,000 meters. Here we can enjoy magnificent views of the many islands and the shimmering surface of the lake while hiking. After a short briefing by our experienced guide, we start our excursion near Bralirwa, the oldest brewery in Rwanda. We enjoy charming views of the amazing landscapes including rolling hills and the clear waters of Lake Kivu. The lake is known for its lush shoreline vegetation. The trek ends with a short walk with traditional healers who will share with us some of their healing techniques and show us the herbs they use. Overnight: Cyimbiri/Kinunu Guest House (B/L/D)   Hike: approx. 16 km Duration: approx. 4 ½ hours

After breakfast we drive back to Kigali. On the way we stop at one or the other market. Until the return flight and depending on the flight time, we have the rest of the day at leisure. There may be time to visit the Genocide Memorial. In any case, we will bring you to the airport in good time and say goodbye to you. We wish "Urugendo Rwiza" - have a good trip.

In the morning you complete the final stretch to Entebbe. Your guide will drop you off at the airport in time for your international flight.
